This is a sample GEOS screen, with all menus shown. The first menu Switch to view 1 shows basic options and desk accessories available on the currently active disk. The second Switch to view 2 allows for basic file manipulation (note heavy usage of Commodore modifier key). The third menu Switch to view 3 allows to change the current view of files. The fourth Switch to view 4 shows various options pertaining to this disk. The fifth menu Switch to view 5 allows to select files, and sixth Switch to view 6 to manipulate pages (GEOS doesn’t use scrollbars, but page-turning metaphor; files can also be placed outside of the page, on the desktop). Last menu Switch to view 7 shows miscellaneous options.

The Note Pad is very similar to that of first Mac OS, with a similar page-turning interface (folded corner of a page).

The geoWrite editor is rather slow, but offers WYSIWYG view with many fonts and basic text processing options. The interface widget at the top of the page shows the current page number and screen position with relation to the whole page. geoWrite does not use scrollbar, the page can be scrolled by moving the cursor to the respective edge of the screen.

Once the calculator desk accessory is launched, the mouse pointer is constrained to the window (one cannot move it outside). The calculator can be closed by clicking on the button with black square.

Notice the quite common misspelling of the word “kernel,” which might have been influenced by Commodore 64’s KERNAL (Keyboard Entry Read Network And Link).

The Disk button appears in an empty space whenever the current drive isn’t the same drive the application is run from, allowing the user to swap disks when browsing for documents. The Drive button switches between disk drives. GEOS does not allow the disk with the currently running application to be swapped for another disk in the same drive.
