You can file documents in existing folders or new folders. Creating a new folder is like creating a new document.

Do this to create a folder in which to file My Memo:

  1. Select the pad Empty Folders, in the Supplies window.
  2. Choose Tear Off Stationery from the File/Print menu: A new folder icon named Untitled will appear next to the Empty Folders pad.
  3. Rename the Untitled icon by typing this: Personal (When an icon and its title are highlighted, typing automatically replaces the name.)

Two items in the File/Print menu close a window:
Save & Put Away closes a window and returns it to its filing home, where it’s filed.
Set Aside closes a window and puts it on the desktop.

Save and put away the My Memo document:

  1. Activate the My Memo window (at the desktop’s upper right) by clicking anywhere in the window.
  2. Make the window close and return to its filing home in the Supplies folder: Choose Save & Put Away from the File/Print menu.

Filing on your Lisa is easy: You just move an icon to the disk or folder you want.

Refile the document My Memo in the folder Personal:

  1. Press and hold on the My Memo icon, and move it on top of the Personal folder icon. When the Personal icon highlights, release to deposit the document.

Now refile the folder Personal on the diskette Samples:

  1. Move the Personal folder icon to a clear spot in the Samples diskette window – the rectangle named “Samples” at the desktop’s lower right.

You can open an icon (little picture) and see its contents in a window (large rectangle). When you close the window you see the icon again.

Two File/Print items close the active window:
Set Aside closes a window and puts it on the desktop.
Save & Put Away closes a window, returns it to its filing home, and saves the latest version of the document or folder on its disk.

You no longer need Supplies, put it away:

  1. Activate the window, then choose Save & Put Away. Watch the window close and return to its filing home, the Samples diskette.
