Getting Started and Personalizing

These instructions explain some basic features and let you personalize Magic Cap. The setup information you enter here will be saved so you can use it later.

How to use this book

This book helps you set up and learn about Magic Cap in a series of step-by-step lessons.

Click ‘start lesson’ to learn how the lessons work.

Lessons proceed step by step. Each step has a box containing an explanation, just like this one.

Any information you supply in these lessons will be kept and used by Magic Cap.

Add your name card

Adding your name card will personalize Magic Cap and the messages you send.

The name cards are at the desk. Click the desk button to go to the desk.

Click the collection of name cards on your desk.

Magic Cap is now ready to be personalized. In the following steps, you will have a chance to make a name card for yourself. The name on that name card will then be used to personalize Magic Cap.

Click the ‘new’ button.

Click ‘person’.

In the following steps, you will type in an address and phone number.

When you sign up for services, this information will appear with your name in your directory listing. You can update this information by editing your own name card after you sign up.

Click on one of the two blank spaces at the left to add your work or home address.

Click a phone button to fill in one of your phone numbers.

You can get more addresses and phone numbers later from the stamper. For now, click ‘next’ to return to the Getting Started book.

Your name card is now saved.

Click ‘done’, below.

Magic Cap has your name card now.

Click the right-hand page corner to continue.



Where are you calling from?

Magic Cap needs your area code in order to dial telephone numbers correctly.

Click ‘set up dialing’ below.

You need a location stamp for each place you might call from. This location stamp tells Magic Cap what area code you’re in so that it can dial correctly. In this lesson, you’ll make a location stamp for wherever you are right now.

The phone is at the desk. Click the desk button to go to the desk.

Click on the phone.

Click the setup button.

Click the stamper to get at location stamps, which represent locations you might call from.

Click on a location stamp here to add it to your personal list of locations.

That’s it. Now click ‘next’ to return to the Getting Started book.

Your dialing setup is now saved. You can add new entries as you call from different locations by clicking ‘setup’ in the phone.

Magic Cap knows your phone location now.

Sign up for AT&T PersonaLinkSM Services

In order to send messages – except to fax machines – you’ll need to sign up for a mail service. This lesson will help you sign up for one such service, from AT&T.

To sign up for a mail service, your computer must be connected to a phone line. Make sure a phone line is connected, then click ‘next’.

Click on the message from AT&T PersonaLink about joining.

Click ‘get form’. Magic Cap will call for a sign up form.

Your connection is now underway. A registration form will appear in your in box shortly.



Send a message

This lesson guides you through sending a message.

To send a message, Magic Cap needs a way to connect to a communication service. The lesson on pages 12-13 will help you sign for a service.
