Workbench 1.0 supports only one resolution: NTSC 640×200 (doubled in height here to compensate for strange apect ratio). At first launch it only shows the menu bar/status line (here with operating system version and free memory), icon for the inserted disk, and two controls for navigating between screens.

Shown here are two drawers (Workbench name for directories), as well as clock and two of the three included demonstration programs. The demos seem very simple nowadays (one drawing dots, second lines and third boxes), but in 1985 were amazing testament to Amiga true multitasking.

The bar on the left of the window shows the free space on the floppy disk. Also worth noticing are icons of different sizes (Workbench since the very beginning allowed for every program and document to have its own attached icon of arbitrary size).

File manager

This GUI doesn’t have this feature. Workbench has no designated file manager. To view all the files (not only those with icons), one must drop to CLI (Command Line Interface).
